About us

Rievaulx is a small pretty village nestled in the Rye valley of the North York Moors on the banks of the River Rye. There has been a Christian presence in the village for thousands of years since the time that the Cistercian monks built their spectacular monastery of Rievaulx Abbey. Today, as thousands of tourists come to see the Abbey Ruins (English Heritage) and the beautiful valley landscape we hope that they will stop a moment to realise that there is a God who created all of this.

Christian worship continues in the village in the 21st century. The Methodist Church, built in 1877, is situated at the top of the village and the Anglican Church is also nearby.

Address:
Rievaulx Chapel is situated 2 miles north of Helmsley, just off the Helmsley to Stokesley Road at the top of the village near the Parish Church.

Our Postcode is YO62 5LB.

Melanie is the Priest in Charge of Helmsley and Upper Ryedale as well as ministering alongside Hemsley and Rievaulx Methodist Churches. Having grown up in the coal mining communities of Derbyshire and spending 15 years in seaside towns of the East coast, now she is following a calling to join in with what God is doing in rural Ryedale. Before being ordained she worked alongside husband Ben, in a small family run company supporting the grain industry. She loves hearing the stories of how God is moving in the lives of those around her as well as knitting, sewing and visiting sites of historic interest with family.
